My name is Justin. I'm a software engineer, a lover of anime, and a gaming hobbyist. In short, the most stereotypical geek you've ever met.

Software

I love JavaScript/TypeScript. I'm a huge fan of React as a frontend framework and recently I've gotten really excited about a new web framework called Remix (remix.run)which was used to build this site.

I spent several years working for State Farm where I moved to Phoenix with 4 other people to start their first ever corporate development office outside of Illinois. I built it from 5 people to over 70 when I left, hiring developers with over 7 years average experience.

I've spent a bunch of time working on financial systems. I first worked at a small startup called Bold where we did payouts as a service for other business (mostly payroll for gig work). I then went to Airbnb where I was a primary designer of their service based payouts system which had processed roughly ~$120 billion worth of currency when I left. I then designed a state of the art foundational financial layer for the company using computer-first design paradigms. That system was about to handle more than 10x the full production spike load, and handled an online migration of the entire history of the system.

I love meetups and giving talks. I took a couple years off, but I've given lots of talks in the past and intend to start again.

Gaming

I've played retail World of Warcraft (raider.io profile) for years as an active raider and runner of dungeons. I expect to continue for years yet to come.

I *love* rogue-like games. I'm always looking for new ones. Some of my current favorites, in no particular order, are:

Anime

I'm mostly into the typical shonen style anime with fighting and the characters getting progressively strong. There are some notable exceptions though. Here are some quick recommendations:
